Setting Up Surround Sound on a Sony Flat Screen

    Cables

    • Connect the stereo surround-sound system to your Sony Flat Screen Television using whichever cables you've decided to purchase. Regular red, white and yellow component cables will do the job and provide adequate sound, but a digital optical cable, or even an HDMI cable, will provide a noticeable difference in audio quality. Connect one end of the cable(s) to the stereo and the other end to the appropriate inputs on the television. Make sure the television and the surround-sound system are both plugged in and powered on; the majority of your work is done.

    Television Settings

    • Do not forget to adjust the settings on your television. You must tell the TV to process the sound not through the speakers on the TV, but through the stereo. This can be done through the TV's basic setup menu. It is also recommended that you turn off the TV's speakers completely, as they are of lower quality than the surround speakers, and when they are all on at the same time, there will be a noticeable difference.

    Surround Sound Settings

    • To ensure that you have proper surround sound with your Sony Flat Screen television, make sure the stereo itself is configured properly. Make sure the speakers are all placed in their proper position (the speaker labeled front-right, for example, should be in the front of you and on the right side of the TV). Adjust the treble and bass settings to fit your listening needs, and make sure the subwoofer is plugged in and ready to rumble.
