How to Seal a Smoker

    • 1). Purchase the needed amount of aquarium caulk (a kind of non-toxic silicone sealant) in a tubing at a barbecue supply store. Aquarium caulk is heat resistant and will not peel or chip when cured.

    • 2). Place the lid on top of the smoker to inspect for gaps.

    • 3). Apply a thin layer of the glue where gaps exist around the smoker's opening. For high bonding strength, glue that is for fiberglass or automotive works best. Top the wet glue by squeezing a layer of the aquarium caulk.

    • 4). Use the putty knife to shape the aquarium caulk, following the smoker's curvature.

    • 5). Remove the smoker's lid, wiping off the glue or sealant residue as needed using a paper towel. Allow one full day for the glue and sealant to cure on the smoker.
