  Roscoe, New York, in the Catskill Mountains calls itself "Trout Town USA". Beaverkill River and the Willowemoc River are two trout-rich rivers that run through this area. The East and West branches of the Delaware River also run through Roscoe and "provide some of the best wild brown and rainbow trout fishing in the East," according to Forbes magazine.
  
  The area surrounding Penn State University in Pennsylvania is filled with what local people refer to as "limestoners," or rivers and creeks fed by cool springs. Penns Creek and Spring Creek are world-renowned trout rivers as the springs keep the streams full of trout all year long.

While West Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park and the college town of Missoula in Montana are the two best-known areas, but the majority of western Montana is excellent for trout fishing. West Yellowstone is "the epicenter of some of the best trout fishing in the world," reports Forbes, and thousands flock to fish in the park's Firehole and Gibbons Rivers. Nearby rivers include the trout-rich Gallatin River and Henry's Fork of the Snake River. Missoula is a college town where trout fishing is a main activity. Rivers Blackfoot and Bitterroot both empty into the highly fishable Clark Fork, which runs for 300 miles.

  A West Coast trout fishing location is Redding, California, with its diverse trout population. The Lower Sacramento River contains some of the biggest rainbow trout in the world. The McCloud River is famous for its leaping rainbow trout. The Fall River and Hat Creek are two creeks for "expert trout fishermen only," says Forbes, that carry extremely large trout.
  
  Trout generally are found in the pools near the edges of rapids, whitewater and waterfalls. Topographical maps are used to find these hot spots. Water is moving fast enough to bubble will mean there is a large amount of oxygen present in that water, which will attract trout. Trout also tend to stay around rocks, underwater vegetation, docks and behind fallen logs. They use these areas for rest and to find food such as insects, leeches and larvae.
