Local Restaurants in South Jersey

    Dock's Oyster House

    • Atlantic City is packed with large, sleek hotel restaurants. But Dock's Oyster House has a more traditional, local feel. Housed in a clapboard house, it has been owned and run by the Dougherty family since 1897. It has a raw bar with a huge variety of oysters alongside clams, mussels, crab, lobster, and Peruvian style ceviche "cooked" in lemon juice. They also have steaks and a surf and turf option. Despite the rustic exterior the inside is sleek and the crowd dresses elegant casual. There is also a full bar and piano bar.

    Green Knoll Grille

    • This Bridgewater restaurant is not dressy, but the food is original. The dining room is plain, with bright lighting and wood tables. The outdoor area is truly massive, with a play area for kids and a tiki bar for adults. The menu includes lots of American options, from a philly cheesesteak to classic parm subs, to peperoni pizza. They also have a few Mexican options, like burritos and chicken in mole sauce. There are many beers on draft. Dress is casual.

    The Stone Terrace

    • The capital of New Jersey, Trenton, has plenty of restaurant options. But many of them are ethnic food or chains. Stone Terrace is named after a backyard garden, where you can sit if you are not in the elegant interior, complete with chandeliers. Until the recent renovation, the restaurant was known as Johnny's Seafood, and there is still a lot of seafood on the menu. Options include oysters on the half shell, lobster, and pastas like three cheese penne with fresh marinara. They also do catering. Dress is formal.
