Candida Yeast Infections

I had at least one yeast infection a month (sometimes two), I woke up with a headache almost every morning, I was tired all the time, my heartburn was so severe that it required prescription medication, I had major brain fog (thought it was just having three children!), and there was a week each month that my family wanted to sell me (PMS).
These are actually just a few of the symptoms I was experiencing at the time.
I decided to run a half marathon and started training; instead of having more energy and feeling better - I was so exhausted I could barely function.
I was eating healthier, running about 25 miles a week and I felt worse than I ever had.
I went to my doctor over and over; she would give me diflucan for my yeast infection and tell me to get better sleep at night.
I would wake up sweating at night and could not sustain sleep, even with all the running.
I was feeling desperate.
Finally, my sister-in-law told me about candida or yeast overgrowth.
I started researching the subject and reading anything I could get my hands on.
As I went down the list of symptoms, I had almost all of them.
It was a relief to finally feel like I had an answer to what was wrong with me.
Symptoms:
  1. Frequent vaginal yeast infections
  2. Fatigue
  3. Depression, anxiety, & PMS
  4. Brain fog, difficulty concentrating, & poor memory
  5. Frequent respiratory illnesses & sore throats
  6. Muscle & joint aches
  7. Bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea (IBS)
  8. Heartburn, indigestion, & bad breathe
  9. Recurrent bladder infections & burning when urinating
  10. Impotency, infertility, & low sex drive
  11. Acne & skin rashes
  12. Fungal nail infections, athlete's foot, & jock itch
  13. Menstrual irregularities & painful sexual intercourse
  14. Night sweats, insomnia, & feeling worse upon waking
I had almost every symptom on this list; I was in a bad way! So are many other individuals out there.
Dealing with Candida can be a frustrating experience, especially since many health practitioners are ill informed regarding this illness.
My doctor did finally tell me that she thought it was most likely candida but that there were not many medical recourses to take.
She referred me to an alternative health specialist.
I was skeptical at first, my husband was even more skeptical.
It worked though - 1 year later and I am symptom free! It was a long road and I am certainly glad to be on this end of it.
I think it is important for everyone to know - Candida is a real illness with often devastating effects.
Don't despair! I feel great again; I am even training for another half marathon - maybe even a full marathon!
