Writer-director Tyler Perry takes a stab at adapting for the screen the celebrated experimental feminist play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf, and he assembles a talented cast that includes Loretta Devine, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Thandie Newton, Kimberly Elise, Janet Jackson, Phylicia Rashad and Whoopi Goldberg.


The play is a series of 20 poems, parts of which are carried over into the film as dialogue, so this movie is not like Perry's mainstream work. But the film does capture some of the struggles faced by African-American women.
