How to Use a Chlorine Tab in an Above Ground Pool
- 1). Remove the lid of the above-ground pool's skimmer. Take out the strainer basket inside the skimmer and empty it of debris.
- 2). Open a container of chlorine tablets and use tongs or gloves to grasp one. Place the chlorine tablet inside the strainer basket.
- 3). Set the basket down into the skimmer. Run the pool and observe the skimmer. If the chlorine tablet stays in the basket and does not float, place the lid on the skimmer. If the tablet floats out of the skimmer basket, place a rock or other sturdy object on the tab to weigh it down.
- 1). Open the lid of the floating chlorinator. Use tongs or gloves to grab a chlorine tab and place it inside the chlorinator. Some chlorinators have room for multiple chlorine tablets. Place the lid on the chlorinator and lock it into place with a twist.
- 2). Adjust the bottom of the chlorinator to the desired water flow rate. Twisting the bottom of the chlorinator opens or closes grooves cut into the base of the chlorinator that allows water to run through the chlorinator for chlorination. The more open the grooves, the more chlorine fed into the pool.
- 3). Set the chlorinator gently down into the pool water. Do not handle the chlorinator roughly or the tablets may escape from the chlorinator, sink to the pool bottom, and damage the liner.
