How to Build a Wood Deer Stand
- 1). Find a cluster of three trees growing close together. The trees should each be at least 18 inches in diameter and should be growing no farther than four feet apart at the desired platform height of 10 to 15 feet above the ground.
- 2). Measure the distance between two adjacent tree trunks. Cut eight sections of 2x4 board to fit with a chop saw or circular saw. Screw the boards to the trunks at 18-inch intervals to make a ladder.
- 3). Measure the distances between the interior edges of the three tree trunks at the desired platform height. Cut three sections of 2x4 board to fit. These boards will serve as the framework for your platform.
- 4). Arrange the platform framework boards on top of a piece of 1/2-inch plywood. Trace the outline of the platform onto the plywood. Cut out the plywood shape with a circular saw.
- 5). Screw the platform framework boards to the interior edges of the tree trunks at the desired platform height. Lift the plywood platform into position on top of the framework. Screw the platform to the framework.
- 6). Measure the distances between the three tree trunks at a point three feet above the platform. Cut three sections of 2x4 board to fit. Screw the boards in place over the platform. These boards will serve as a safety railing.
- 7). Install a stool in your deer stand and drive some nails into the tree trunks. The nails will serve as storage hooks for clothing and supplies.
