How to Build a Log Hunting Blind
- 1). Go into the woods several months before the hunting season begins. You likely will make a lot of noise when you are constructing the log blind, which will alert the animals to your presence. But if you build it and then only come back to the woods when it's time to hunt, the animals will have had time to adapt to the blind's presence.
- 2). Select the spot where you want to construct the log blind. Many hunters select spots near trails and other areas that animals use frequently.
- 3). Locate the logs you will use to construct the blind. It is likely you can find all the logs you need from downed timber strewn about on the forest floor. Pick up logs of varying sizes. Remember that logs with branches will help conceal you better and make your blind look more natural. In addition to logs, small fallen trees can be very useful in creating a natural hunting blind.
- 4). Begin crafting your blind by laying down the largest logs first. Most natural blinds are constructed in the shape of a circle or rectangle. Decide which you prefer, and remember to leave an opening so you can get into and out of the blind. Continue placing smaller logs atop the large logs, and use fallen trees or logs with branches to fill in any holes in your blind.
- 5). Build up the log blind until it is large enough to conceal the majority of your body, but not so high that it limits your sight or ability to shoot.
