The Isle of Arran and Learning About it
Located on the largest island in the group of Firth of Clyde you will find the Isle of Arran.
This location is also the seventh largest of the Scottish islands.
People have resided in this area since the Neolithic period.
There have been many remains that have been found proving this.
Many of these islands have been resided on by people who have spoken at least four different languages ever since the Iron Age.
Off the north of Arran you can see the "Sleeping Warrior"; it resembles a huge human figure resting.
The highest hill in that location is Goat Fell which stands at 2, 866 feet.
While three other spots in the north east are a bit higher they are Caisteal Abhail, Beinn TArsuinn, and Cir Mhor.
While there is a large valley located at Glen Iorsa, and a narrow valley Glen Sannox to the east.
A big part of the island is made up of granite batholith; it was created by past volcanic activity, thought to happen about 60 million years ago.
While to the southern part of the island is mostly older and newer red sandstone.
There are many villages located around the area too.
You can find many different shops to visit in Brodick and even a Brodick Castle.
Also the Machrie Moor Standing stones which are thought to be part of a system of graves.
Many discoveries have been found in this area that show habitat in pre-historic times, you can find many of them in museums located in Arran and other villages.
Another finding was that of Ossian's Mound that dates back to the Bronze Age.
The dig around that area located a gold fillet and a bronze dagger.
It's a fabulous area that can take you back in time.
One that should be visited if you ever have a chance.
