- A hydrosalpinx is when one or both of the fallopian tubes are swollen due to a past infection. A normal pregnancy cannot occur because the egg and sperm cannot come together because of this blockage.
- Causes of a hydrosalpinx include old infections, such as a sexually transmitted disease, surgeries or scar tissue.
- Some women experience vaginal discharge or frequent abdominal pain while others have no symptoms as all.
- Hydrosalpinx can be diagnosed through X-ray, surgery and ultrasound.
- Depending upon the severity of your condition, the doctor may be able to perform surgery to open up your fallopian tubes which would enable pregnancy to occur. If your tubes have too much damage, you may have to have IVF or vitro-fertilization therapy.
