- 1). Plug the iPhone 2G's USB cable into the power port on the bottom of the phone. Plug the opposite end of the cable into a USB port on the computer you use to sync the device with iTunes. ITunes loads once it detects your connected phone.
- 2). Select the iPhone 2G under "My Devices" on the left side of the screen. All of the information related to the iPhone loads onto the screen.
- 3). Click "Search for Updates" in the middle of the screen. ITunes connects with the Apple server and searches for any updates for your iPhone.
- 4). Select "Download and Install" when the available upgrades appear on the screen. The download begins in the background of the computer. You can still run other programs without being interrupted; however, once the download has finished, it takes over the iPhone 2G. Do not disconnect the phone while this takes place.
- 5). Remove the USB cable from the phone once the phone returns to its normal screen and it does not say "Sync in Progress." Your sync has now finished.
