How to Make a Pipe Template
- 1). Draw the first pipe vertically on the template plastic. Draw the pipe to scale unless the project is too large. If you are not drawing to exact scale, draw everything proportionately to the other pieces by creating a conversion scale.
- 2). Cut the pipe with a line at the angle you want the next pipe to connect to it at the top. Draw a circle at the bottom and section into 16 equal pieces. Number the top half of the circle lines 1 through 9, from left to right, starting at the center and moving counterclockwise. Draw vertical lines from each of the numbered lines in the circle up to the cut at the top.
- 3). Measure the circumference of the second pipe. Draw a horizontal line that length, or converted with your scale, to the right of the first pipe just below the cut. Divide the line into 16 sections with vertical lines. Number the first nine pipes from left to right.
- 4). Connect the vertical lines of the first pipe with the vertical lines of the second pipe matching numbers. Finish off the second pipe with a bell curve starting at number 1, then reaching its highest point at number 9, then curving back down again.
- 5). Cut out along the outline with a utility knife. Take the template with you to the store and refer to it while you do the layout.
