Visit Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen
Denmark's stunning Christiansborg Palace is located on Slotsholmen, a small island in Copenhagen Harbor. Rebuilt in the 1920s in the Neo-Baroque style after a fire ruined the central building, Christiansborg Palace is the third castle of its name to occupy the space since 1167.
Not only is Christiansborg Palace architecturally impressive it's also home to some of the oldest European governing bodies.
Historically fascinating and marvelous to behold, it's a must see attraction for everyone who visits Denmark.
Christiansborg Palace is also currently the site of Denmark's Parliament; here, all three branches of the government work in the same building, something that doesn't happen anywhere else in the world. Entrance to the Parliament's public galleries is free when a parliamentary debate is in session, otherwise the Parliament can be visited with a guided tour.
Denmark's monarchy also makes use of the palace, receiving foreign ambassadors arriving in traditional horse-drawn carriages and hosting events in the Royal Reception Rooms. Between April and October, all parts of the palace are open daily. In the winter months, some are closed on Mondays.
- Visitors are welcome to access the Royal Reception Rooms and the ruins on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from October through April, 10 am to 5 pm.
- The Royal Stables are open the same days but from 1:30 pm to 4 pm except during the month of July when they are open from 10 am to 5 pm.
- If you would like to visit the Theatre Museum, you may do so Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am to 3 pm or on the weekends from 1 pm to 4 pm.
