Reeds drying for use in construction and cooking fires

The reeds are cut and bundled in stacks to dry. Note the reed houses. Some have reed roofs but others have bright metal ones.
When freshly cut, the center of the reed is eaten as a vegetable. With a slight sweet taste some compare to asparagus, the tortora is a mainstay of the Uros diet.
