How to Trim a Tree Burned by Fire
- 1). Gather the appropriate supplies. If the tree you will be trimming is small, a pair of work gloves, safety goggles, garden shears, manual saw and ladder or stepping stool should be sufficient. If it is on the larger side, you may also want to have a chain saw, safety line, and saddle specifically made for tree trimming.
- 2). Choose the branch you are going to start with. It is best to start with the heaviest branches at the bottom and work your way up.
- 3). Cut the branch from beneath and continue until you are about one-third of the way through. This cut should be 2 to 3 feet away from the trunk of the tree.
- 4). Finish the cut from the top of the branch, angling your blade another 3 inches past the first cut.
- 5). Allow the branch to fall away from the tree and to the ground.
- 6). Move yourself closer to the trunk of the tree, and use a manual saw to make a blunt cut through the base of the branch. There should be no branch stub left, but the area where the branch was removed should protrude slightly from the trunk. Removing of the bulk of the branch before cutting into to its base will prevent damage to the bark.
- 7). Use the garden shears to cut away smaller branches or twigs, following the same guidelines outlined for large branches.
