Burgers and Nightlife in Rio"s Botanical Garden District

May 21, 2011

Caroline Café has some of the best burgers and one of the best ups - top-floor clubs - in Rio. The café opened in 1994 by friends who wanted to give it a Búzios-New York City feel has imports in its décor and outdoor tables.

Besides the burgers - the owners call the Caroline Rio's first gourmet burger - there's a sushi bar and a menu with plenty of light choices, which recently have also been served as a buffet lunch.

Some of the main dishes are Paillard Caroline (filet mignon scallops in a sesame seed crust, served with homemade papardelli in red wine sauce), Bistro Chicken (grilled chicken fillet with leek chips, caramelized apples and Gorgonzola risotto) and ribs with barbecue sauce and potatoes.

Apple pie, brownies and ice cream are some of the desserts. There's a kids' menu with straightfoward steaks and sides such as rice and beans and french fries.

A few imported beers are served - Leffe, Warsteiner, Erdinger, Paulaner. Brazilian drinks include Brahma draft beer. The bar is known in Rio for its good cocktails; the Caroline takes blackberries and grapes.

The veranda on the first floor is great for couples. The party with a DJ on the top floor is on Friday and Saturday night.
