Chrysler 360 V8 Specs

    • The Chrysler 360 engine originally appeared in vehicles in 1971 with a two barrel carburetor. A 5.9 liter 3.58 inch stroke engine, the Chrysler 360 V8 was included in passenger vehicles, trucks, vans and wagons for over three decades. In 1974, Chrysler upgraded the 360 to a four barrel carburetor in an attempt to replace the 340 as Chrysler's performance engine. By 1980, all 360 manufacturing moved to Mexico. In December 2002, Chrysler ceased production of this engine model.

    Horsepower

    • The earlier models of the Chrysler 360 offered between 110 and 155 horsepower at 3,800 and 4,000 rpm. After 1978 when Chrysler made adjustments to the 360's valve timing and added dual concentric throttle return springs, the horsepower increased to between 175 and 195 at 3,800 and 4,000 rpm. The 1994 360 model topped at 230 hp at 4,000 rpm in the Dodge Ram.

    Torque

    • The 360 V8 offered between 180 and 320 pounds-per-foot of torque over its long history. The 1994 360 V8 model offered the greatest torque in the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 models.

    Size

    • The Chrysler 360 began production at a size of 225 cubic inches in 1971 with an 8.4 to 1 compression ratio. With the third 360 model, the size jumped to 318 cubic inches and an 8.5 to 1 compression ratio. By 1994 the Chrysler 360 had grown to 440 cubic inches with a decreased compression ratio of 8.2 to 1.

    Air Cleaner and Exhaust System

    • All factory produced Chrysler 360 engines included a single snorkel air cleaner and a single exhaust system.
