- 1). Contact your cable or satellite provider and upgrade to both the HD service and the DVR option, if you currently do not have the hardware. Most likely, a service technician is going to stop by to drop off your new equipment.
- 2). Plug the HDMI cable into the "HDMI Out" port on your high-definition DVR. Insert the opposite end of the cable into an "HDMI In" port on your HD television.
- 3). Power on the HDTV and the HD receiver. Select "HDMI" as your input option to view the high definition cable or satellite programming that loads onto the screen.
- 4). Push the "Guide" button on the HD receiver's remote control to view all the upcoming programming information. Push the directional arrow buttons on the remote control until you highlight the program you want to record.
- 5). Press "Record" to mark the program for recording. Once the television show begins to play, the HD DVR records the content onto its built-in hard drive.
