Genuine Fractals vs. Photoshop

    General Functions

    • Both sets of software were made with photographers in mind. Perfect Resize 7 was made specifically to resize images without losing any sharpness, detail or color quality. You can also easily crop and gallery-wrap images. Photoshop is a complete photo-editing suite that does everything from resizing to completely altering an image. Certain items can be edited out, filters can alter the appearance, color changes and corrections can be made, the use of a complete toolbar can be employed and much more; the list truly goes on and on.

    Types of Technology Used

    • Perfect Resize 7 uses fractal-based interpolation algorithms to resize your images. The fractal algorithms convert the photo information into mathematical data which allows the image to be resized indefinitely without losing any information. Photoshop has several methods to choose from that range from simply multiplying pixels to make the image larger to using complex calculations that evaluate each pixel, deciding which are the best to duplicate and by how much.

    System Requirements

    • Perfect Resize 7 needs at least 2GB of RAM while Photoshop only needs 1GB. Perfect Resize 7 only needs 250MB of free disk space while Photoshop requires a full 1GB of free disk space (2GB on a Mac). Both require at least Windows XP or Mac OS X 10.5 as your operating system. Older processors would have trouble accommodating such large and sophisticated programs, so your processor will need to be at least 1.8 GHz or faster.

    Cost

    • Perfect Resize 7 comes in both Standard and Professional Editions. The Professional Edition is a few hundred dollars while the Standard Edition is about half of that. Photoshop can either be bought individually for a couple of hundred dollars or purchased within a suite of other sophisticated Adobe products ranging from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars.
