Review of Primavera Calming Skincare Collection

Primavera was established more than two decades ago in the Alps of southern Germany by Ute Leube and Kurt Nübling. The company crafts its products using 125 ingredients cultivated through fair trade agreements with 18 organic farms worldwide. In addition to its organic and natural certifications, the brand never tests on animals.

About the Company

The company’s tagline is Pure nature. Perfect balance.

According to the Primavera website, “Our products are intended to connect customers with nature every day because we believe that feeling close to nature creates a sense of balance. Just as the Earth regulates seasons, life cycles and ecosystems, nature regulates the rhythms of our own bodies and minds.” The company’s Primavera Academy receives more than 5,000 professional students annually for seminars about the holistic benefits of plants, Aroma Expert certification and plant journeys to learn about organic cultivation and distillation.

My Thoughts on What I Tried

Calming Cream Cleanser ($30 for 3.4 oz) – This vegan cream cleanser lives up to its promise to be extra-gentle and non-drying. It did well at removing dirt, but I needed backup when it came to eye makeup. The texture was great and the pump-top dispenser was handy. It worked better for me when applied to dry skin versus damp.

Calming Toning Lotion ($30 for 3.4 oz) – Of the line’s four products, the toning lotion was my hands down favorite.

With a liquid-gel texture, it noticeably calms and hydrates the skin, making it appear more clear, smooth and even-toned.

Calming Eye Contour Cream ($46 for .5 oz) – The eye cream is lightweight, and neutral on contact with a pleasant smell. I did not notice any substantial minimizing in the appearance of the fine lines in my eye area, however. It stood up well when used underneath eye makeup, and didn’t cause any greasiness or affect cosmetic performance.

Calming Moisture Cream ($44 for 1 oz) – Just a pea-sized amount is all you need of this soothing moisturizer. It provides good hydration without being greasy and doesn’t leave any shine on the skin so it’s great if you want to go makeup-free.

For just $15, you can take a test run of the calming skincare line with a trial sized version of the four products packaged in an organic cotton travel bag. There are also moisturizing, revitalizing and balancing systems available.

The Bottom Line

I really enjoyed all the Primavera products I tried. I particularly loved the glass packaging of the cleanser and toner – the green bottles and lady logo make this an attractive set that you can leave out on your vanity. I like that chamomile is a key ingredient, but my favorite part of the calming collection overall is how the texture of my face remained neutral after using the products, and never oily or dry. It is a luxury-priced line, but a little goes a long way – you should get at least two to three months’ of mileage out of the full-sized bottles, making it a moderate splurge. Another thing to consider: Stringent quality and ethical practices do influence cost. In terms of redness relief, it fell somewhat short of my expectations. While this product line didn’t do anything to increase or aggravate the typical inflammation and dryness I experience in my cheekbone area, it unfortunately did nothing to eliminate it either.
