How To Get Better At Drums In Less Than 10 Minutes

There you are on stage.
The lights are so bright, the fans are cheering and you are sweating from your 2 hour show.
The rest of the band stops playing and it is your time to play the drum solo of your life...
but you don't know how to play.
This is basically called stage fright, but this does not have to happen to you.
You can get better at playing drums or any instrument for that matter in just 10 minutes.
I have taught people how to play drums for years and they all have the same worry that they will not be able to perform good enough to play out or have extreme stage fright.
This will all go away in a matter of weeks if you follow a simple system of playing that has been used by pro drummers for years.
Here are just a few ways to improve your speed, power, internal clock, and that annoying stage fright.
Many teachers tell you to practice for hours a day to achieve your goal and this just is not possible for most people nor is it necessary.
Break up your different workouts across the week and concentrate on one thing at a time and not at the final goal of being the most awesome drummer ever by tomorrow.
Here are a few ideas.
Speed Take 2 minutes and warm up your hands with a few slow "8 on a hand" strokes to get your muscles warmed up and ready for a workout.
Tapping along with the radio is just fine.
After that start by alternating your sticks back and forth on your snare drum right left right left r l r l r l.
Start slow and work your way up to as fast as you can go.
Once you can not go any faster slow back down until each beat has at least 1 second in between each hit.
After a couple weeks you WILL notice a speed increase.
TOTAL TIME=10 minutes Power Start your power the same way as you did with the speed workout.
2 minutes of "8 on a hand" to get warmed up.
After that you can do the exact same workout you did for speed only this time you play on a pillow.
You will notice that it gets a lot harder to play because the stick does not bounce back at you.
This is great because you have to use more muscle to move the stick in both directions which ultimately results in more power.
(This also helps how long you can hold your top speed).
TOTAL TIME=10 minutes Internal Clock The drummer is almost always in charge of keeping the band in tempo since you are the only one that plays the whole time.
The best way to develop a killer internal clock is to play with a metronome everyday for ten minutes.
That's it.
Naturally you will start to understand different tempos and how to hold them better than the rest of the band.
TOTAL TIME=10 minutes If you rotate through these workouts playing only 10 minutes a day after a couple weeks you will be a lot faster, stronger, and more confident to play with any band.
