What to Pack for the North Cape
The North Cape is a beautiful and interesting place where the past, present and future can exist in perfect harmony. Its unique nature is defined by breathtaking views brought about by the natural rock reefs, gulfs and the ocean. A perfect view of the ocean, the bobbing seals and the Black Marsh Nature Trail make the North Cape a natural paradise.
This area is identified as one of Europe's northernmost points and it is located 700 miles within the Arctic Circle.
Due to its position, the North Cape experiences an Arctic climate with summer temperatures not exceeding 10 degrees Celsius - while in winter, the temperatures stay under 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit). A significant amount of the total precipitation in this area is snow. Since it falls throughout the year, the summers are pretty much like winters. When travelling to the North Cape, below are some ideas to help you with the packing list.
Clothing:
With the region experiencing a considerable amount of snowfall throughout the year, it is advisable to take a lot of warm clothes with you. Take anything from tops and crops to sweatshirts, wind proofs and fleeces for you to counter the cold weather comfortably. Other items include hats, gloves, scarves and weather proof gear since you might find yourself sitting at beautiful botanical gardens in the city by the evening. Headgears are also important since they will prevent your face from freezing.
Footwear:
If you are travelling to the North Cape for the first time, just make sure to remember that your summery open shoes from back home are of absolutely no use here.
The snow packed pavements call for closed warm shoes. This means that you should carry along your boots with a woolen inside, heavy soled shoes, closed leather shoes or even sneakers, as long as they are warm. Both of these shoes should have a good sole to avoid tripping on the pavements and stairs.
Personal Medication and Toiletries:
Due to the availability of stagnant water in a number of areas, it would be commendable to carry a mosquito repellant. Being a sparsely populated area with few pharmacies in the streets, it would also be convenient if you carry some basic drugs like painkillers. In addition, you may find the prices of these items to be slightly higher at the North Cape than in your hometown. Make sure to bring along your medications as well.
Bags and Luggage:
When travelling to the North Cape, whether you are carrying a small bag or a big one, always make sure that it is waterproof. This will help you avoid inconveniences that might occur while dragging your bag along a snow covered pavement or when rain starts falling all of a sudden. A perfect bag should have wheels for easy navigation. Since warm and heavy clothes normally occupy a large space, a big bag would be convenient especially if you plan to stay there for long.
Electronics:
Carry your favourite gadgets along since the North Cape is not only a conducive environment for having fun but also working away from the office.
Each year, the North Cape experiences the Midnight Sun, which is a period in summer where the sun remains visible in the sky 24 hours each day. However, this does not mean that the region will have a warmer temperature. There is also another period in winter referred to as polar night where the sun does not rise over the horizon at all - hence it remains slightly dark for a number of days. If you are ready to experience the beauty and exciting scenery that the North Cape has to offer, remember to fill your packing list with warm clothing items.
