How to Activate & Set Up an iPhone 4
- 1). Insert the SIM eject pin which came with the iPhone 4 into the hole on the right side of the device in order to take out the micro SIM card tray. Put the micro SIM card inside the tray and insert it back into the phone. If you can't find the SIM eject tool, use a paper clip to eject the SIM card tray.
- 2). Open the iTunes website and download the latest available version of iTunes available (see in Resources). Install iTunes on your computer by double-clicking the downloaded iTunes setup file. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. During setup, you can create a new Apple ID for iTunes or use the login credentials of an existing one.
- 3). Push the power button on the top right corner of the cell phone until the iPhone screen shows the Apple logo.
- 4). Connect the iPhone 4 to your computer using the USB cable which came with the iPhone. The iTunes will automatically activate the phone by exchanging data with back-end servers. Typically, an iPhone is activated at the time of purchase by the iPhone retailer or cell phone service provider. But, if your iPhone is not activated, get it activated by contacting your iPhone retailer or cell phone service provider.
- 5). Click on the iPhone icon under "DEVICES" on the left side bar in iTunes. You can check the details of your iPhone such as the software version, capacity, device showing name, phone number and the serial number under the "Summary" tab. Set up the sync settings in each of the settings panes including contacts, calendars, emails, Webpage bookmarks, notes, ringtones, music, podcasts, books, movies, TV shows, applications, photos and videos. Click on each of these tabs and choose the check marks in each one's settings pane. Click "Apply" in the lower-right corner of the iTunes to save these settings.
- 6). Configure the Wi-Fi settings by tapping on the "Settings" icon on the home screen. Tap again on "Wi-Fi" and then tap the button to turn on the Wi-Fi. Choose a wireless network from the list of available wireless networks in range. Tap on the wireless network, if the network is secured enter the password and tap "Join" to connect. Secured networks will appear with a lock sign in the available wireless networks list. In instance no Wi-Fi is detected, your iPhone 4 will connect to the Internet over a cellular data network.
- 7). Set up your email accounts by tapping on the "Settings" icon on the home screen. Tap on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and then tap again on "Add account." Choose from the list of email services including Microsoft Exchange, MobileMe, Google Mail, Yahoo! Mail and AOL. After selecting one of the Internet based email services, type your complete email address, user name, password and a description in the respective text fields. Tap the items you want to use on iPhone such as mail, calendars and notes. Tap "Save."
