When you take your child to a new place, he or she generally is a bit uncomfortable.
When you go to the doctor, this can be a pretty intimidating experience.
Find out what you can do that will help you make your child more comfortable while at the doctor's office.
You need to talk to your child about why you are going to the doctor.
You might be going because you are not feeling well.
You could be going to see someone.
You could be going to help your child get better.
Let him or her know that the point of the visit is to make their sickness go away.
Make the child as comfortable as possible.
If he or she is sick, they might not want to go at all.
Make the car ride comfortable.
Bring some pillows and blankets if they feel better with these.
Have something to do while at the doctor's office.
Regardless if you show up on time, generally you are going to have to wait quite awhile to see the doctor.
You don't want your child to get bored.
When things are delayed or while in the office waiting for the doctor, try to tell your child what is going on.
This will help them understand.
Encourage him or her to ask questions about what is going on.
This will satisfy their curiosity.
Also it can help with any fear since there are many intimidating objects and pictures in a doctor's office.
Talk about how the doctor's office is a safe place.
Your child might feel some pain but let him or her know that this is for their benefit.
Explain that when pain happens like getting a shot, it's not meant to be cruel but to help your child.
If your child is good, reward him or her with something that they like.
