- 1). Wash a 2-liter soda bottle in hot soapy water. Rinse thoroughly to remove any traces of soapy residue.
- 2). Cut the label free of the bottle and remove. Replace the bottle cap.
- 3). Cut a 3-inch circle in the bottom of the bottle with a sharp knife. Trim the edges smooth with a pair of scissors.
- 4). Dig a hole approximately 3 to 4 inches from the base of your plant. Make the hole large enough to fit the top of the soda bottle into the soil to a depth of 4 inches.
- 5). Turn the soda bottle upside down and fill it with water by pouring water into the hole you cut in the bottom of the bottle.
- 6). Loosen the cap slowly until water begins to drip around the rim. The object is to create a slow drip. Adjust the cap as necessary.
- 7). Place the bottle in the hole with the capped end down. Press soil around the outside of the bottle to prevent it from tipping.
- 8). Refill the bottle when all the water has dripped into the soil.
