Nordfjord in Norway
Location of this fjord:
Nordfjord is situated in the northern part of Sogn og Fjordane county in Western Norway. This fjord covers the following municipalities: Gloppen, Eid, Selje, Hornindal, Vågsøy, Stryn, and Bremanger. It enters the mainland to approximately 100 km from the open sea and terminates in three minor branch fjords.

The fjord’s area is approximately 4,294 square km.
It is 105 km long making it the 6th longest fjord in Norway. Nordfjord is 565 meters deep and stretches to about 106 km from the island of Husevågøy. The region also has waterfalls and boasts Europe’s deepest lake called Hornindalsvatnet which is actually 514 meters below sea level. Nonetheless, Nordfjord encompasses the uneven shoreline of Stadlandet to the Jostedalsbreen Glacier, which is Europe’s largest glacier.

A regional airport that is near the fjord is the Sandane Airport, Anda, Norway. This airport is 13 km away from the center of the fjord and you will be able to reach the fjord after 30 minutes if you take a domestic flight from this Airport.
How to Get to the Fjord by Car from Oslo:
Oslo- Norway’s capital city- is 434 km away from Nordfjord. The journey from Oslo to the fjord takes about 7 hours and 20 minutes. From Oslo, head north to Storgata. Continue with this road until you reach Hammersborggata and then merge onto Hammersborgtunnelen. From here, turn left to the Fredriks Gate and take the 3rd exit at the roundabout.
This will lead you to Munkedamsveien from where you will head to the E18 ramp route. Continue with this route until you reach Kjørbotunnelen. Keep left and continue with the E 16 route until you reach a roundabout. From the roundabout, take the 2nd exit to Rv7 route which will lead you to another roundabout. Take the 1st exit but still remain on Rv7 route. When you reach the 3rd roundabout, follow the 1st exit to Lauvrudvegen and turn left to Hemsedalsvegen. This leads you to another roundabout from where you will take a second exit to E16. Continue to Seltabrui and when you reach the next roundabout, take the first exit onto Hellervegen. From here you will use the Mannheller-Fodnes ferry. After alighting, move straight onto RV 5. At the roundabout, take the first exit and go to the Lote-Anda ferry. Move right to E 39 route. To this last roundabout, take the third exit onto Rådhusvegen and turn right. You will have reached your destination.
