Survivor 7: Pearl Islands - Episode 6

Last week's show ended with the Morgan tribe winning Immunity again and the second Drake tribe member, Michelle, voted off after her perceived betrayal of the tribe by swallowing down a disgusting Seafood Smoothie without a qualm. With Rupert bonding with the injured snake he rescued and bandaged, (what kind is it?) and Morgan tribe rebounding after their early series of losses, what happens next? Will the Drake team regret throwing that first Immunity Challenge? Will obnoxious Jon Dalton please be voted off? Or will it be Darrah Johnson from Morgan or Shawn Cohen from Drake?

None of the above!

This episode begins with Rupert mourning his snake, Balboa, and burying him rather than using it for bait. He regrets his voting off Michelle, who had class, and wishes he'd voted for Shawn.

On Morgan island, a friendly pelican "adopts" Ryan Opray, to Osten's unease. The rest of the tribe laughs, but Osten flees from the pelican, then sharpens his machete and threatens to chop off the bird's head, to Andrew's disgust.

On Drake island, tempers flare once again when Rupert suggests raising their shelter and Jon and Shawn arguing whether the work should be done and who should do it. Jon begins, then stomps off and Shawn finishes the job almost single-handedly.

Trish Dunn calms the tribe down, then cheerleads them to go into the Reward Challenge, with the prize being a grill and utensils, spices, lobsters and steak: a Surf and Turf dinner. Both tribes greedily eye the food.

The challenge tests their pirate skill at loading, aiming, lighting and firing a cannon at four targets marked with the opposing team colors.

Two by two, the tribes go at it. Drake takes an early lead, Darrah evens the score with an almost bull's eye, but Christa Hastie fires the winning shot for a jubilant Drake team.

The captain of the Morgan team, Andrew Savage, is visibly upset and his tribe returns to their island to wonder what the Drake tribe' will loot from them.

After enjoying their Surf and Turf dinner, Drake team sends Jon to the Morgan island the next day to loot their pot. Once there, and welcomed by Andrew and Tijuana Bradley, Jon, wearing what Andrew calls his "diplomat hat," denies that he's come for the portable shower, but would love a shampoo. Morgan tribe gives him some shampoo and before he heads into the surf to wash his hair, Jon tells the Morgans that the Drake tribe really won seven challenges since they threw one. An astounded and angry Andrew says Jon's claim is nonsense and ridiculous, but it serves as a great motivator for Morgan team going into the Immunity Challenge.

This challenge requires strategy and endurance, as 600 pounds of weight, evenly distributed in burlap bags, are added to the weight of a 15 pound bar across the shoulders of selected tribe members. Rupert, Shawn, and Christa stand on platforms opposite Osten Taylor, Ryan and Andrew. Initially, most of the weight goes to Osten and Rupert. Osten gives out first at 160 pounds. Ryan drops out with 140 pounds. Rupert, loaded with 200 pounds, makes the mistake of balancing the weight only on his shoulders and can't stop the pole slipping. With the remaining weight going to Andrew, Christa and Shawn, Shawn drops at 140 pounds, and Christa hangs on as long as she can with 160 pounds, but in the end, it is Andrew who carries the day - and the weight - for Morgan tribe.

A disbelieving Drake tribe heads home to ponder the next Tribal Council. Rupert is angry with Shawn for giving up so easily and wants him off "his island." While he heads off to fish for his tribe, Jon, Sandra and Trish plot against him. Trish and Jon are insecure about the power Rupert wields, and worry that he could go all the way to the finish with either tribe. Trish asks the others if they can stand to starve for the remaining 18 days for a chance to win the million. The three agree they can and agree not to tell Christa or Shawn of their plan until just before Tribal Council.

Sandra tells Christa who tells Rupert who mounts a counter attack. Jon and Shawn agree that Rupert must go. Rupert is unnerved and visibly upset going to the Council.
