Trumpet Craft

• Cut out identical horn shapes from two 8 1/2-by-11 pieces of yellow construction paper. To make the horn shape: Draw a rectangle 3 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches long, with one 3 1/2-inch side centered on one of the 11-inch edges of the construction paper. Using a ruler, draw lines from the top right and left corners of the rectangle to the top right and left corners of the construction paper to complete the horn shape. Cut out the horn, erase any pencil lines if necessary, and use it as a template for the second piece of paper. Wrap the narrow end of one horn shape around an empty toilet paper roll and tape with yellow masking tape. Repeat with the other paper horn on the opposite side of the roll, covering it completely, and secure with tape. This will give you a horn and mouthpiece. Add three buttons of any color to the top of the mouthpiece with craft glue.
  
  

Jar Craft

• Give kids a piece of paper with a large jar drawn on it. Give them different colored pieces of construction paper in all kinds of jagged shapes and sizes. Provide them with safe, non-toxic glue and instruct them to glue the colored paper pieces so they completely cover the inside of the jar in any design they want. Explain as they work that the jagged pieces represent how Gideon and his 300 men in the biblical story had to break their jars as they approached the enemy's camp.
  
  

Door Hanger Craft

• Instruct children to create and color their own image of Gideon and his men on a white paper plate with crayons. When they are finished, punch two holes in the top of the plate and add string or ribbon, creating a hanger for a doorknob. Add a short phrase to the bottom of each paper plate artwork about how God uses the weak for his work.
  
  

Torch Craft

• Provide each child with a small flame shape cut out of yellow construction paper as well as red and orange markers or crayons. Ask the children to add red and orange flames to their yellow torch light. Tell them about how Gideon and his men used their torches to confuse their enemies and win the battle, blinding the enemy to the fact that Gideon had only 300 men, not the huge army they thought was attacking. Glue each torch flame to a craft stick to create a torch.
