How to Make a Simple Tulle Skirt

    • 1). Wrap a soft tape measure around your waist. Measure the circumference where you would like the waistband of the skirt to sit. Measure from this waistline to where you would like the skirt to end. Multiply both the width and the length by two.

    • 2). Draw a rectangle on your tulle fabric according to the width and length obtained above, and cut out the tulle shape.

    • 3). Lay the tulle rectangle on your work surface and fold it in half to reduce the length. The folded edge creates the bubble hemline for the skirt.

    • 4). Fold the skirt in half to reduce the width, and sew along the rough edge to make the skirt's side seam. Sew through all four layers of tulle at the side seam.

    • 5). Cut a piece of 1-inch-wide elastic to the circumference of your waist. Pin the elastic to the top, rough edge of the skirt, opposite the bubble hemline. Stretch the elastic as you pin to make it span the entire width of the tulle. Sew the elastic in place to make the waistband; then remove the sewing pins.

    • 6). Multiply your waist circumference by two and cut a piece of ribbon to this length. Fold the ribbon lengthwise to find the middle and pin it to the back of the waistband. Wrap the ribbon around the elastic waistband and pin it in place. Sew along the ribbon to attach it to the skirt, and make a bow from the ribbon ends.
