How Golf Fitness Pertains To The 2012 Olympics
The Olympics is finally here!I am still here in the UK and have had the pleasure of being here for all of the pre-Olympic hype, seeing the torch near my hometown and now for the Olympics themselves. Although I am not in London, the country has banned together and the excitement has spread to the far corners of our beautifully green land.
You may be wondering what golf fitness training has got to do with the Olympic athletesWatching the Olympians compete is not too dissimilar to watching the golfers compete in The Open Championship last week.
The training formula all of these great athletes follow is similar - they all push themselves to their best ability. Just as the professional golfers work on their golf fitness, the Olympic athletes spend countless hours on their sport-specific fitness and perfecting their techniques for this massive feat to take on the world stage. The slogan for this year's Olympics is Inspire a generation, which we know that in our digital age, this is needed now more than ever. If you watched the Olympic opening ceremony, you'll remember that the few selected athletes who lit the flame were up and coming young athletes.
At Athletic Golf Training our slogan is coaching the next generation of golfers, through golf fitness.
The next generation of golfers refers not only to young golfers, but golfers of all ages who want to bring their game to the next level and be part of the future of golf.
Pretty similar to what the Olympics are promoting as well.
As with everything we do in this life, we want the best for our children and each new generation should have a better life than the last. Although we are in the information age, there is so much golf fitness and training information out there that can actually create more harm than good, if not followed correctly. Being preventative and building up your golf fitness will not only help you become a better golfer (for youth and adults alike) but it will also help minimize the amount of sports related injuries you may face.
I also want point out the Olympic motto of "faster, higher, stronger" and touch on the fact that I stress this to golfers when practicing their golf fitness.
The common goal for most athletes is to beat the competition, improve their game and push themselves to places they only ever dreamed of going to. The Olympic motto is one that should not be taken lightly in sports and virtually with anything we do in this life. The goal is becoming our best selves and I think this motto is a solid one that athletes constantly live by.
If the only sport you are interested in is golf and therefore the Olympics are really not your thing, I urge you to pay attention to these great dedicated athletes in their chosen sports and how they conduct themselves and take pride in what they have already achieved regardless of medals; they are Olympians.
The good news is that golf will officially make it's appearance as part of the summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016. Whether you agree with this or not is a different matter, but I suggest to start paying attention to the young golfers in the circuit at the moment, you just may find yourself cheering them on in 2016.
