The Best Baby Registry Items

    Car Seat

    • A car seat is perhaps the most important item your baby will need. Not only does a car seat keep the baby safe while you are driving, but it is also a requirement by law. Two different types of car seats are available for babies. The first, an infant carrier, is the most versatile because the base can be left in the car and the carrier used to carry around the baby. The second, the convertible seat, can be used for up to four years because it starts as a rear-facing infant seat then converts to a front-facing baby seat, then a child seat.

    Diapers

    • Babies go through dozens of diapers every week, which quickly becomes costly. Whether you intend to use the disposable type or the cloth type, you can never have too many diapers on hand. Add different size diapers to the registry because babies grow out of newborn diapers quickly. If you choose to use cloth diapers, add diaper covers to the registry as well. Diaper covers are worn over the cloth diapers to protect your baby's clothing.

    Baby Bed

    • For safety and comfort, it is important for your baby to have his own baby bed. A baby bassinet is an option if your newborn will sleep in the same room as you. Most models feature locking wheels for you to roll the baby from room to room. A crib is a stationary option for larger babies. Some cribs are designed to convert to a toddler bed, so your baby can use it for years.

    Feeding Supplies

    • Whether you decide to bottle-feed or nurse your baby, feeding supplies are likely to come in handy. Bottles are available in small and large sizes, glass and plastic bottles and with or without bag liners. Bottles can also be used as a back-up by nursing moms. Besides bottles, a bottle warmer, cleaning brush, bottle cleaner, extra nipples and a breast pump are items you should also include in your registry.

    Clothing

    • Although newborns grow out of clothing quickly, there are a few essentials you should add to your registry. Long and short sleeve T-shirts are necessary for everyday use. One-piece sleepers are also convenient because they keep your baby's feet covered at all times. Bibs keep your baby's clothing clean and dry throughout the day. Layette sets and socks are also needed.

    Other Items

    • A number of other items may come in handy and can be added to your baby registry. Some options include a diaper bag, receiving blankets, stroller, changing table, baby sling, crib bedding set, baby bath tub, portable play yard, bouncer, swing and waterproof mattress pads. Grooming care essentials, such as washcloths, baby shampoo, lotion, baby oil, wipes, baby wash, diaper rash ointment, safety cotton swabs, fingernail clippers and a comb and brush are other items you may want to add to your baby registry.
