How to Join the Parts of Two Plants

    • 1). Cut a piece of wood from the previous year's growth from the plant you want fruit from. Make a cut at a 45-degree angle to remove a 12-inch section of wood. Wrap the end of the cut piece with a piece of moistened cloth. This piece is called your scion.

    • 2). Cut the stem of the rooting plant at a 45-degree angle to remove the foliage. This leaves just the stem exposed.

    • 3). Make a slit down the stem of the rooting plant, down the middle of the previous angled cut to create a tongue. Make the same cut on your scion.

    • 4). Slide the two "tongues" of the rooting plant and the scion together.

    • 5). Wrap the scion and rooting plant together with a piece of grafting tape. Keep the grafting tape in place until the grafted plant shows new growth.
