How to Assemble a Pool Pump

- 1). Place the pump unit next to the pool on a level surface where you plan to place it permanently.
- 2). Connect the plumbing lines. Most pumps have two plumbing connections; one to bring the water in and one to take it back out after it passes through the filter. You can connect some plumbing lines by hand-tightening the line to the valve but other lines may require a bonding adhesive such as PVC cement.
- 3). Check the O-rings on all valve fittings and wipe clean with a damp cloth, if dirty. Lubricate each ring and its groove with a silicone lubricant. Place the O-rings in their grooves and tighten with the union collar.
- 4). Install the filter, if necessary. Some pool pumps already have the filter installed. In particular, if you are using a sand or diatomaceous earth (DE) filter, you may need to fill the filter tank with a gravel and sand layer or a DE mixture.
