I remember quite clearly a remarkable occurrence that took place coming back to school after a summer holiday back in the 1980s.
There was a boy in our class who at 15 years old was one of the shorter boys at about five feet four inches in height.
We all went on break for eight weeks and on returning the boy had gained six inches in height and continued on this growth spurt that took him to six feet six inches by the time November came around.
Yes...
he had gained a whole foot in just over 5 months and was now the tallest boy in the entire school.
Now this is however not something that is unheard of it happens quite often and there are even more dramatic cases of growth spurts all over the country and globally.
There is this one case that comes to mind of a boy in Mumbai India who went from being a mere five feet at 16 years old to almost seven feet before he turned 16 and a half.
This phenomenon is cause by the pituitary gland kicking into overdrive and over secreting its contents late in the life of these kids.
The later in life this happens the more a condition called acromegaly tends to develop,where there is a disproportional growth of limbs and will result in stress on organs which normally shortens the life span of the affected individual.
If it happens in a young kid you more likely, and will simply end up with a quite normal, but extremely potent N.
