What Was Your Business’ New Year’S Resolution?
Did you know that people who explicitly make resolutions are ten times more likely to reach their goal? (University of Scranton, Journal of Clinical Psychology, January 1, 2014)
The top 10 New Year's Resolutions for 2014 were:
Lose weight
Getting Organized
Spend less, Save More
Enjoying Life to the Fullest
Staying Fit and Healthy
Learn Something New
Quit SmOKing
Help Others in their Dreams
Fall in Love
Spend More Time with Family
Like most of us, you probably would like to obtain more than one of these goals. As a small business owner or manager, you are essentially self-employed, therefore, providing you with an even greater opportunity to not only make this happen for yourself but for the others who depend on you. OK, I hear some of you scoffing because as a small business owner or manager the buck stops with you, right? That usually means longer hours; always being on call; carrying a heavy load of responsibility; the list goes on and on.
Your days are probably too full to even contemplate how you would even attempt to make the many changes you that you, above all else, would benefit the most from. However, if the above statistics are true then 7 out of the top 10 most common things people desire to change can be directly linked to our work lives in one way or another. So can you afford not to make some changes? Here's an idea, what about making some New Year's Resolutions for your business?
While I believe a formal business plan is essential to operating a healthy business, I know many small businesses do not operate with such detailed formalities. If that is your business, then how about just writing out two key New Year's Resolutions and posting them up around your office or business.
Not only will this make you 10 times more likely to achieve that goal, posting it will get everyone on board, they will probably appreciate your intent to improve and how great will it be when everyone can share in that success!
This post brought to you by The Seminole County Port Authority was created by an act of the Legislature in 1965 to construct and manage a barge port and industrial complex on the St. JohnâEUR(TM)s River in Seminole County, Florida. The enabling legislation instructs the nine member Board of Directors to serve the county and public purpose, which is accomplished through economic development efforts directed primarily at small business interests.
Job creation and retention have always been the overriding management factors which guide the administrative process of the Seminole County Port Authority.
