How to Dial an International Phone Number From the U.S.

    • 1). Dial 011. This is the exit code for the U.S. and Canada.

    • 2). Dial the country code of the country you are calling. This will be a one, two or three-digit number. For example, the country code for Kenya is 254. To call Kenya, you'd need to dial 011 254 732 417 338.

    • 3). Dial the area code. If you are dialing 011 254 732 417 338, 732 would be the area code. If this code is not in the number, the country you are dialing does not use area codes.

    • 4). Dial the remaining six or seven digits. These make up the local number. In our example--011 254 732 417 338--the numbers 417 338 would be the domestic telephone number.
