How to Convert LPs to CD With a Mac
- 1). Prepare your vinyl records to convert the LPs to CD. Use a soft cloth to wipe down the LP to remove any dust or debris that has collected in the record's grooves. This helps ensure a high quality recording when you are converting the vinyl records to CDs.
- 2). Turn on your Mac and launch the Final Vinyl software from hardware- and software-manufacturer Griffin Technology. If you do not have a copy of the Final Vinyl software, download it free from the Griffin Technology support website (see Resources below). Double-click the DMG file to initiate the automated installation process.
- 3). Connect the Griffin iMic to your Mac computer by plugging the USB cable into the USB slot on your Mac. If you are using another type of audio cable, follow the appropriate instructions from the original manufacturer.
- 4). Plug a 3 1/2" audio cable into the iMic's line-in jack if your record turntable has a line-out jack. If your turntable is older, it may not have a line-out jack and you will need to plug a microphone into the iMic. If you are using hardware other than the iMic, you will need to connect the audio recording device directly into your Mac using the line-in jack on the computer, or a compatible crossover cable.
- 5). Place the LP onto the turntable and set it to play. Simultaneously, press "Record" in the Final Vinyl software. The software will immediately begin recording the audio entering the Mac through either the iMic hardware or the alternative hardware you are using. Final Vinyl will record the audio as an AIFF file. Stop recording at the end of each track if you plan to separate the vinyl record into individual songs.
- 6). Drag the AIFF files in Final Vinyl to your iTunes library. Right click the file in the iTunes interface and select "Create AAC Version" or "Create MP3 Version," depending on your individual preferences set in the iTunes software (either is appropriate).
- 7). Press the "Command" key on your keyboard simultaneously with the "N" key. This creates a new song playlist in iTunes.
- 8). Drag the tracks from your LP to the playlist.
- 9). Click the playlist.
