How to Self Check a Vibration Monitor

    • 1). Check the monitor readout on the vibration monitor with the machinery turned off. Enter the vibration monitor's readout system by pressing the "Data" button in the "Run" mode function.

    • 2). Decide on the readout you want to inspect, such as the full parameters, the alarms or the maximum and minimum values. Push on the arrow keys to read the parameters for the machine that the vibration monitor has been monitoring. Note the parameter readouts.

    • 3). Leave the readout mode by pressing the "Esc" button. Wait 20 seconds for the for the vibration monitor to return the screen to the measurement display.

    • 4). Evaluate the wiring to the vibration monitor if you noticed you were receiving readings even when the monitored machinery was off during nonoperational hours. This can be due to false readings from induced noise that is created by the field wires for the vibration monitoring system.

    • 5). Check the wiring from the vibration monitor. Add junction boxes for the vibration transducer wiring and the wiring leading to the vibration monitor.

    • 6). Switch out flexible conduit to rigid metal conduit for wiring leading from the junction boxes to the vibration monitoring equipment. Only thread the wiring specific to the monitoring system through this conduit to reduce induced noise and false readings.
