How to Access the Restore Partition on a Gateway MT6840
- 1). Turn the computer off, then turn it back on. Begin tapping the "F8" key as soon as the computer is turned on to be taken to the Advanced Boot Options screen.
- 2). Use the keyboard to highlight "Repair Your Computer" and press "Enter." The system recovery utility will begin to load. Select your preferred language and click "Next."
- 3). Log in to the computer using your regular Windows user name and password.
- 4). Click "Restore Application," then click "Next."
- 5). Select "Recovery with automatic data backup" if you would like to have the recovery utility attempt to preserve your data when restoring the system. If you choose this option, you will find your saved data in the "C:\backup" folder after Windows is reinstalled. Note, however, that this process should not be considered a replacement for a full backup, which should be performed before restoring your system if you are able to access the data. Alternatively, select "Full factory recovery" to return your computer to its original factory condition. Click "Next" after making your selection.
- 6). Click "Yes" to confirm your selection and to confirm that you understand your data will not be preserved if you have chosen to perform a full factory recovery. Click "Next." The recovery utility will reinstall Windows and all of the Gateway applications that shipped with your computer.
- 7). Click "Finish" and "Restart" when the process is complete. The computer will reboot, and Windows will load. The computer is now ready to use.
