How to Germinate Almonds
- 1). Purchase raw, organic almonds. It is important that you purchase nuts that have not been roasted or salted, as these will not germinate. Purchase your almonds in small batches, as germinated almonds will not store for more than four or five days.
- 2). Put 1/2 cup of raw, organic almonds in a glass jar with 2 cups cold water. Almonds germinate in water, swelling and beginning to sprout.
- 3). Set the jar in a place that is at normal room temperature and out of direct sunlight for six hours. Drain the water and replace with fresh, cold water. Allow the nuts to soak for six more hours.
- 4). Pour the soaked nuts through a strainer. The water will be brown, having been dyed by the skin of the almonds.
- 5). Place the germinated nuts back into the jar and put the lid on. Place the covered jar in the refrigerator. The nuts will gain sweetness and become moister if you allow them to sit for another day. They'll last in the fridge for 4 to 5 days. If the nuts gain a mildewed or rotten appearance or scent, discard them.
