Almost due east of Asunción on the Parana river which is the border with Brazil, Ciudad del Este, or Eastern City, is near Iguazu Falls and Itapu Dam. The city is an important border crossing.
Visitors from Argentina and Brazil come here to shop for electronic goods and smuggling is common.
