How to Use a microSD Card in an eTrex HCx
- 1). Turn the eTrex HCx over and remove the battery cover from the device. The microSD card slot is located in the upper left corner of the battery compartment.
- 2). Slide the microSD card into the slot with the contacts facing out. You will hear a click when the card is fully inserted.
- 3). Replace the battery cover on the device to secure the microSD card and the batteries.
- 1). Pull the USB cover out of the USB slot on the back of the eTrex HCx. The USB slot is located above the battery compartment.
- 2). Plug the small end of the USB data cable into the USB slot on the device and connect the other end to a USB jack on your computer. After several seconds your computer will recognize your GPS unit as a removable disk drive.
- 3). Open your web browser, navigate to the Garmin MapSource updates website, and download the latest MapSource update. The link for the Garmin website is located in the Resources section.
- 4). Double-click the executable file downloaded from the website. The executable file has an EXE extension and has "MapSource" plus the version number in the name.
- 5). Follow the on-screen instructions to add the MapSource update to your eTrex HCx. The program will detect your GPS device and update your maps.
- 6). Disconnect the GPS unit from the computer. The updated information will load onto the unit the next time you power on the device.
