How to Airbrush Mailboxes
- 1). Fill your airbrush bottle with the appropriate color paint. Most paint will do, provided it is diluted to airbrush specifications. Dilution rates will be specific to your airbrush equipment.
- 2). Lay out a pattern for your mailbox. Find a pattern online, stencil or lightly trace a freehand pattern on your mailbox. If you have never airbrushed before, then keep your pattern simple.
- 3). Fire up your airbrush. Turn on your compressor and holding the nozzle directly into the air, push the trigger of your airbrush until the paint blows out of the tip uniformly. Only then should you begin airbrushing your mailbox.
- 4). Fill in your design. Do every part of the pattern that is one color at once. Apply paint to your mailbox in short bursts. Always move the tip while painting and never blast in one place. If you have a black mailbox, then you may need to go over an area several times if you are using light colored paint.
If you are using a stencil, you will need to hold the stencil in place while you airbrush the different parts. You may need to tape the stencil to the box or have someone hold it for you. - 5). Allow your mailbox to dry. This should not take more than 24 hours as long as the weather is dry and relatively warm.
- 6). Seal in your design. Your mailbox is subject to the elements, so keep your design intact as long as possible by spraying the dry design with a weather seal to protect it.
