How to Crochet a Bed Canopy
- 1). Choose a bedspread pattern with a finished size of approximately 100 by 90 inches. When deciding on a pattern, note that the longest length, which runs from the head to the foot of the bed when used as a traditional bedspread, will run from side to side of the bed when installed as a canopy.
- 2). Crochet the bedspread according to pattern directions.
- 3). Fold over the long edge of the bedspread 2 inches to make a casing. Hand sew using matching color thread.
- 4). Cut 10 3-foot lengths of crochet cotton. Sew one end of each piece to the top edge of the casing, beginning and ending at the front opening and spacing the remaining eight strings equally across the width of the spread. Catch only the very top edge of the folded edge, leaving the casing unobstructed.
- 5). Paint a hula hoop the color of your crocheted piece. When dry, use a utility knife to make one slice through the hula hoop. Slip the hoop through the casing the same way you would slip a curtain onto a curtain rod. Glue the sliced edge of the hoop back together.
- 6). Screw a hook into the ceiling above the head of your bed.
- 7). Bring the 10 strings up to the hook. Adjust for desired length. Make a knotted loop with the strings and slip over the hook.
