Video: How to Antique With Mod Podge

Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Cherish, designer of Somethingtocherish.com, and I'd like to show how easy it is to add an antique finish to your picture or Mod Podge project using Mod Podge. Mod Podge actually has an antique formula, antiquing formula that you can easily apply to your picture and it comes in this nice cream color and then on top of that I like to add a little bit of a brown edging around the side of the picture to also enhance the aged look of the event. So to begin, I'm going to just pour a little bit of this onto my brush and it's kind of just like painting but it's a really nice clear glaze with the creamy look to it, leaving the transparency of your picture underneath. So you're going to want to get all the sides and once I go and finish in one direction, I try to go the other way to even out all of these streaks. So you'll want to spread it out evenly past the whole surface. So next, I'm going to add a little bit of brown acrylic to the edges and I'm just going to start with putting a little bit on this big flat brush and just start working it around, just really loosely at first but just spread it out and it's okay if it mixes with your Mod Podge a little bit because it will create a nice blended effect and you'll also want to make sure you catch all these edges so that way the color is evenly distributed and then all the way around the top and it's okay if it's a little messy because that's the nature and fun of Mod Podge. You may continue blending this towards the center but I want to keep the middle of this rather light to emphasize the aged appearance. So this looks like it's working out to be really nicely blended and just continuing the feathering look in the middle and this would be a wonderful background for all kinds of different things. You could Mod Podge a family photo onto it or somebody's name or favorite verse or saying. Alright, so now we're going to let this go and dry. I hope you had fun watching this video on how to antique with Mod Podge. I hope you'll go live life to the fullest and make something to cherish.
