How to Defragment FAT32 Directories

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button on the computer and then select "Run." Enter "command" if you are running Windows 95 or 98. For newer operating systems, enter "cmd." Click "OK" to open the command line utility.

    • 2). Type "defrag drive:" where drive is the drive letter you want to defrag. For most users, the "C" drive contains the FAT32 folders and files.

    • 3). Press "Enter." The defrag utility runs and orders the data on your hard disk. This may take several minutes to complete.
