How to Cancel Television Cable
- 1). Call your cable company. You should be able to find their telephone number on your bill or in your phone book.
- 2). Tell the customer service representative that you would like to cancel your cable. The customer service rep may try to "hard" sell you new products at a heavy discount to encourage you to stay with them. If this happens, explain to her nicely that you no longer need/want the service and you will not be changing your mind. This should stave off several upgrade offers and pitches that are time-consuming and irritating.
- 3). Tell the customer service representative the day you would like your cable turned off and set up an appointment for a technician to come and unhook your cable boxes and unhook the "tap" from the outside box. If you do not have a cable box, request that your cable be shut off immediately. Because it will most likely take up to a week for a technician to come to your house, you may find yourself with a few days of free cable.
- 4). Take your cable box into the office. If you don't want to wait for a technician, you can disconnect your cable box yourself (unhook any electronic components, and unscrew the connector to the coaxial cable that goes to the wall) and bring it in. Don't forget to bring the remote of the cable box with you. If you forget it, the cable company will charge you.
- 5). Supply the customer service rep with a forwarding address for any final bills, or pay over the phone if the option is allowed.
