How to Build a Rat Guard

    • 1). Cut a circle of tin 16 inches in diameter, plus the diameter of the pole you want to guard.

    • 2). Cut a circle out of the center of the tin circle you cut in the last step. The cut-out circle's diameter should be equal to your pole's diameter. You now have a doughnut shape.

    • 3). Cut a wedge out of the doughnut equal to 1/4 of the doughnut's total size.

    • 4). Form the remaining tin into a downward-facing cone around your pole so the top of the guard is 4 inches from the top of the pole and the bottom of the guard is at least 2 feet up from the ground.

    • 5). Repeat this process for each pole holding up your structure.
