- 1). Vacuum the carpet to remove dirt and dust. The carpet should be vacuumed daily.
- 2). Blot any spills with a clean cloth or towel to remove as much moisture as possible.
- 3). Combine 1 teaspoon of wool laundry detergent with 1 cup of room temperature water. Alternatively, combine 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts warm water.
- 4). Dip a sponge in the cleaning mixture. Dab the sponge into the stain. It's important to dab the stain, and not rub, because rubbing can spread the stain. Continue dabbing until the stain lifts.
- 5). Blot the area with a damp cloth to remove cleaning residue.
- 6). Place a towel over the carpet and lightly press down to remove moisture. Continue until no more moisture is present.
- 7). Lightly brush the carpet with a carpet brush to prevent matting. Do not brush hard, because this can ruin the carpet fiber.
